Seamless integration – DataPro and Whitespace – a case study

DataPro is an industry leader in providing software for the Lloyd’s insurance market. Its vision is to implement all the latest technologies into its insurance broking system, RiskPro. Naturally, when they learnt about the Whitespace Platform, they could clearly see all the integration possibilities. DataPro’s clients produce heavily formatted slips, and they needed a way to populate a Whitespace slip using RiskPro data right through to producing bespoke documentation for an insured, all without manual intervention while retaining the original document formatting. It was important to help users get used to the idea of having an electronic contract in an uncomplicated way that did not require them to dramatically change how they did business. Using the Whitespace Platform and its API connectivity offered the perfect solution.
As Whitespace lists all its API documentation for developers on its website, DataPro was able to get started straight away. After contacting Whitespace, DataPro was set up with a test account and was immediately able to begin making test calls.
With Whitespace, DataPro was able to ensure there was only one point of input for data, eliminating rekeying entirely. This key entry point allows data to flow seamlessly from DataPro’s system into Whitespace. From a front-end user perspective, it is streamlined and straightforward, belying the complex workings going on behind the scenes. This removes any potential learning curve and allows clients to begin placing contracts instantly.
From a broker’s perspective, they are not seeing anything different. They build a slip the same way as before, but instead simply select a Whitespace slip template. Behind the scenes, however, a lot is going on: the document is instantly built via the Whitespace API to populate the digital contract using data entered in RiskPro.
Helpfully, the digital contract is accessible via the RiskPro document management system and the Whitespace platform, so the entire Whitespace contract lifecycle can be managed via RiskPro. If a slip is amended, everything is updated in real time including live Whitespace signing and pop-up notifications in RiskPro. The integration through Whitespace’s APIs is that seamless.
There are many systems in the insurance market running code that dates back as far as the 80s. Together, DataPro and Whitespace offer an easy way to transfer information from older systems into Whitespace. Using just a few lines of DataPro’s API code, a legacy or modern system can send slip data to RiskPro’s document management system. The 3rd party system data is then available within the RiskPro document management system, which can be sent to Whitespace’s platform. This enables companies to easily build and manage Whitespace slips using their own system data by utilising DataPro’s powerful and flexible integration. Companies can store correspondence and documents for their clients within the RiskPro document management system, send files to underwriters on Whitespace and even chat live with Whitespace carriers straight from RiskPro. Crucially, given Whitespace is already CDR-compliant, DataPro’s clients do not need to worry about this: it is all done for them.
Sam Stoppler, full stack software engineer at DataPro, said: “We are always looking for ways to make our clients’ lives easier and more efficient. Integrating our broker system, RiskPro, with the Whitespace Platform does exactly that. Everyone in the market knows Whitespace, they’ve created an amazing and user-friendly tool for the creation of placing slips. We’re continuing to work with companies like Whitespace to ensure that our customers are able to access the best technologies in the market.”
Lucy Card, head of client engagement at Whitespace, added: “The beauty of working with a company like DataPro, is that they see things in the same way that we do. We’re both independent, data-led companies that keep everything in-house. That independence allows us to have the agility required to quickly adapt to clients’ needs. We look forward to exploring all the possibilities that integration can bring.”
